Liquefied Natural Gas

Liquefied Natural Gas Matters

BGM has the experience necessary to assist clients in developing and permitting liquefied natural gas (LNG) projects. Since early 2007, we have represented a Deepwater Port Act (DWPA) applicant for a United States Maritime Administration (MARAD) license to construct and operate a deepwater port 28 miles off the western coast of Florida. The deepwater port applicant proposes to install facilities for offloading and regasifying LNG from specialized ocean-going vessels, after which the gas will be transported by conventional subsea pipeline into Florida’s interstate and intrastate pipeline grids. BGM has been the lead legal contact on this project with MARAD and the United States Coast Guard, the federal regulatory authorities with primary DWPA responsibility for approving this project, as well as with FERC, which has Natural Gas Act jurisdiction over the project onshore.

Our attorneys also have worked with clients concerning proposed onshore LNG projects in various other locations. In connection with those projects, we have counseled clients and met with FERC staff regarding FERC’s pre-filing process, environmental review, application for required approvals, acquisition of real property and rights-of-way and related requirements for project development.
